Feng Shui Your Car #5

Don’t park your car facing your home. As the car turns to face your home, it directs sha chi towards it from the bonnet and the headlights. Sha chi is particularly potent when aimed at your front door.

Sha chi is an unpleasant, attacking type of energy and can create discomfort for the occupants and unhealthy energy moving through the home via the front door.

Back into your driveway if possible and park the car facing away from your home to avoid the sha and so that you are not in the line of attack when you, personally, exit your front door. This will keep your mood positive and upbeat.

Apart from this, it’s less hassle to drive out forward and see what’s going on in front of you.

Feng Shui Your Car #4

Re-think what’s in your car. Objects with points or sharp edges are known in feng shui as poison arrows. They aim an angry type of chi at you.

Also, an object swinging around as you drive is chopping the chi around instead of keeping it free-flowing and balanced. It’s also distracting you from concentrating on the road and your driving. Out with all these!

If you want a mascot in your car, ensure that it’s not a snake, tiger, or other ferocious wild animal. It may not be real, but think about what it represents – a cunning, menacing, fierce energy. Do you want this type of unnerving energy in your car with you? Try a gentle-natured cat, dog or bird, and sense the difference in the energy around you. You’ll feel more peaceful.

Feng Shui Your Car #3

Open your windows and breathe.

Inhale that life-giving chi, full of oxygen and negative ions which help to clear the air and your lungs of harmful airborne particles such as bacteria, viruses, odours, dust, mould spores and more.

The inside of the car is a small space and the air is quickly robbed of its vital energy. If the car is new, it can also be full of chemical pollutants which leach out from the new fabric and works of the car.

Do you ever arrive at your destination feeling a little lethargic, out of sorts, low or lifeless? You need fresh air! So roll down your car windows whenever you can and grab that cleansing, invigorating chi.

Feng Shui Your Car #2

Having clutter-cleared your car (Feng Shui Your Car #1) now clean the windows, inside and outside, so that a continuous flow of auspicious chi can enter, flow around inside the car, then exit.

Chi can’t come and go effectively through dirty windows. It needs to flow well through the windows, otherwise the energy inside your car will become stale and stuck, and end up affecting you in a similar way, because you absorb the chi around you. You may feel sluggish, or not moving ahead in your life, or suffer mild congestive health issues or other stuck conditions. So let the chi flow through super-clean windows.

Feng Shui Your Car #1

Good feng shui in your car can make your time spent in it safer, healthier and more enjoyable. You absorb the energy in which you reside, even during a short trip in your car, so it makes sense to keep the energy in it balanced and healthy.

Start by clearing your clutter. This will immediately free-up the energy inside your car. Stuck energy can stop you from getting things moving, progressing, making your life work for you. It can also clog up your body and make congestive health issues stick around, like colds, chest infections, headaches. And it can make you feel like you’re stuck in a rut.

So, get a large bin bag for chucking things, and a box for carrying things back to where they belong. Then open all the windows and take a drive around the block. Don’t you feel that buzz of energy and wellbeing?

The Best Feng Shui Place To Sit

Do you sometimes avoid sitting in a particular place because you don’t feel comfortable there? It could be that you simply don’t like the atmosphere in the room, but mostly it’s because you are sitting in the wrong place. This can make you feel unsupported, unprotected, vulnerable, disturbed, or even distressed.

These are all undesirable seating positions:

Sitting with your back facing an empty space. You are unsupported and unprotected. Better to sit facing the space.

Sitting with the door somewhere behind you, unable to see it unless you turn around. You may feel vulnerable, as though somebody could creep up on you without your knowing it.

Sitting directly in line with the door. You are open to an assault of chi as it enters. It may be negative chi, but even positive chi can disturb you when it hits you with force.

Sitting between the door and window.  Chi rushes from a door to a window, unless there is anything to stop the rush. In this case, it’s you stopping it. You are under assault again.

Sitting with your back facing a window. Not so bad, but move if you feel uncomfortable. If you can’t, place some net curtains at the window. Place a plant underneath or at the window to deflect the chi.

The best seating position is where you have command over the room, which means good back support (a wall , a piece of furniture, or a high-back chair) and being able to see the door, facing the space in the room, and if possible, with a view of the window.

A good seating position should make you feel supported, protected, comfortable and peaceful. There are some feng shui remedies to help you here, but the easiest remedy is simply to move your chair.

Clutter Can Harm Your Health

Clearing your clutter refreshes and revitalises the energy in your home or personal space, which can help to clear your mind, give you an energy buzz and improve your wellbeing tremendously.

There is nothing to make you feel more positive about yourself and life than having a clutter-clear.

Clutter creates stuck, congested energy which, apart from clogging up the atmosphere around you, can steal your personal vitality and make you sick.

It can manifest in your body as physical illnesses that stick around, such as congestive disorders like constipation, colds or chest infections. It can influence compression issues like weight gain or abdominal fat. It can also make your relationships or life stick, and stop them from moving ahead.

All this compromises your mental and emotional health, which may cause you anxiety, worry and low self-esteem. So all in all, clutter can gradually take over your health and life and have a serious knock-on negative effect on you.

But looking positively at it, you can easily do something about it and begin to feel good immediately. Here are three clutter actions to get you going:

Identify your clutter: Things that you don’t like, don’t use, or don’t need.
Consider your clutter: If it’s useful or needed, tidy it, or repair it, and use it.
Clutter action: Chuck, donate or sell your clutter.

Feng Shui Health Tips

There is a significant connection between your health and the quality of chi in your home. You absorb the energy that surrounds you, so if you are feeling out of sorts or a bit low, healthy-up the chi around you to uplift your spirits and boost your health.

Air:  Inside a home the air is often more polluted than outside. Open doors and windows regularly to move the air around. Then improve its quality with plants. Plants attract chi and make it healthy. Peace Lily and Boston Fern are two good plants for purifying the air. Have some small plants dotted around the room, and in the East sector of your sitting room (the health area in feng shui) a tall plant such as an Areca Palm.

Entrance hall: Here the healthy chi entering from outside gets ready to move through the home. If your spirits sag as you enter, so will the chi. So make the hall light, bright and welcoming. Ideas: colourful rug and picture, good lighting, anything that makes you feel good.

Light: Essential for health. Natural light outdoors is best for you. Indoors use full spectrum light. Hang a mirror strategically to reflect light into a room, but don’t reflect anything unpleasant, like clutter or bills to pay. A mirror doubles them!

Health Area: The East sector of your home will benefit from clearing clutter, placing that tall green plant mentioned earlier, and a small water feature, or a bamboo plant.

Bedroom: Let in natural light and fresh air by day, have gentle light in the evenings. No blue light equipment like phones or computers. It interferes with your melatonin production for quality sleep. Cover sharp points and angles of furniture aiming at you while you sleep. Cover the television overnight if it reflects the bed. Try not to have your bed between the door and window, or you will be hit by a rush of chi. Clear any clutter and try to keep underneath the bed and behind the door free of stuff.

Positive Thoughts: Just these few steps can help clear out stuck energy, refresh the atmosphere, and create healthy surroundings that support your wellbeing. Your positive thoughts help too, as thought is energy. So focus on improving your wellbeing, and keep the healthy chi flowing every day.

Healthy Front Door

The front door is one of the most important areas of the home. This is where healthy chi energy from outside enters and flows around the whole home, nourishing all rooms and spaces.

How chi travels towards the front door, what it meets when it arrives there and how it enters are important. Its journey can make it tired, depressed, angry and unhealthy, or it can make it happy, energised, balanced and healthy.

Here are some tips for attracting healthy chi to your front door and into your home:

Chi must meander
It gets angry rushing along a straight path to your front door, so stagger some plants in pots along the path, to make chi curve. Chi loves plants. It will stop around them for a while, gathering healthy energy.

Chi likes pleasant scenery
Unsightly objects like recycling bins, old pots, piles of rubbish or  dead plants will make chi unhealthy. So keep the front area looking tidy and pleasant.

Door in good condition
No squeaky hinges, rusty knobs and knockers or peeling paint. Polish the shiny parts and give it a new coat of paint. Make sure the door opens to its full width. Chi doesn’t like being squashed.

Lights and plants
Chi is attracted to lights and plants. They make it healthy. Plants around the door, either side of the door step for balance, and a light above, are perfect.

Your own chi
Your own energy can affect the quality of chi that enters. If you enter feeling negative, you risk weakening the chi. If you enter feeling good, chi will bounce around with health. We cannot always feel upbeat, but if you find your front door and front garden pleasant to see and to walk through, you will bring good chi in with you.

but you can make a very positive start with the points above.

Check What Your Mirror Reflects

Look in your mirror from all angles to see what it reflects. The mirror symbolically doubles what it reflects. If it’s clutter, the mirror increases the clutter and the denseness of the stuck chi which permeates it. If it’s a table with a pile of bills on top, the mirror doubles the bills and any stress you may have about paying them. Move the mirror to reflect something pleasant which will increase healthy chi and lift your mood.

Wake Up In The Rooster Year 2017

shutterstock_463816550The Year of the Rooster on January 28th is the start of the Chinese New Year. The energy influences for 2017 are Yin Fire over Metal, metal being the rooster’s element/energy.

Fire and Metal clash, and the 2016 yang fire and metal monkey clash brought the energy of unpredictability and surprises, taking a risk and trying something different. 2017 yin fire and metal rooster energy gives us a wake-up call to get moving, but in a more calculated, methodical and practical manner. Rooster energy gives a sense of optimism, strength, leadership, collaboration and communication, while the yin fire kindles around it, gathering heat until, at the right time, it turns into a roaring fire.

The Rooster provides us with a perfect energy this year for taking responsibility for our direction in life, thinking out what we really want, and planning how to achieve it. Then the Rooster treads along confidently and optimistically, taking slow but sure steps, while the yin fire glows around our plans, gathering heat, until it finally ignites them into achievement.

Last year I grabbed the Monkey energy and stepped into the unknown. It brought me a different perspective, new ideas and new contacts. It was like a breath of fresh air. This year I’m definitely going to do some thinking and planning, and move ahead optimistically, waiting for the yin fire to start glowing bright and strong.

Feng Shui Is For Keeps

shutterstock_20276278-smallI once sat next to a BBC reporter at a dinner.  He was disappointed not to receive a quick feng shui diagnosis over the main course, followed by treatment over dessert. He asked me discreetly if our Host’s dining-room needed feng shui, then asked if I could help him to feel better, as he was lacking energy and generally feeling unwell. I did wonder if he would have asked a doctor or lawyer for some quick advice over a semi-formal dinner.

I explained that I would need compass readings and special analyses for the dining-room, which take time. For his problems I would need to chart his birth data, take compass readings and analyse his personal living space, the building and the environment around it. As much as I love helping people to feel better, facts need to be gathered and analysed first. If feng shui is not carried out correctly, misinformation risks being given. Further, although there are feng shui rules, bio-individuality is also considered.  Every property and every person is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

But, given time to do the job properly, it is amazing how feng shui can help to restore balance within a person’s surroundings and within the person. As I always tell people who ask me about feng shui, balance creates optimum conditions for healing to begin, in the home, in the body and in life. One or two things may change quickly, but mostly they change gradually, profoundly and positively, and blend in gently to become part of life. This is why I sometimes hear people say “Well it would have happened anyway.” They forget that it had not happened until feng shui had been applied. But the important thing is that it did happen.

Feng Shui Hell In A Hotel Room


I wonder how many people walk out of this hotel room feeling ill, nervous, shattered and spooked. Some years ago I had my worst night’s sleep ever in this room. I had to check in quickly and rush off to a meeting which ended late at night. When I returned, I was desperate to drop into bed and sleep. I had no time to do a Feng Shui on the room apart from covering the television and the full length mirror on the door.

During the night I felt hyperactive and slightly ill. A sense of foreboding made me feel quite scared.

It was an old hotel, so there was obviously plenty of predecessor energy in the room. Perhaps somebody had taken ill or had a serious problem in there. The next morning it became evident. The room was packed full of poison arrows, mostly aiming at my bed. There were pointed picture frames and sharp edges of alcoves. The bed head was a large square, divided into smaller squares, with all the points aiming at me. The multiple images on the heavy wallpaper were two birds sitting on twigs. The twigs were pointed towards my bed, as were the birds’ beaks.

The sofa with large cushions, the bed valance and the carpet were all in plum and red colours, giving an everlasting buzz of yang energy. One large cushion was placed diagonally on the sofa, so that its large point held court over the room. This had to be the room’s ultimate poison arrow. But no, there was more! The hotel was located in a cul-de-sac with the long main access road aiming directly at my room.

An absolutely horrid night, but what a wealth of Feng Shui material for me. It proved to me, yet again, just how a person’s surroundings can affect their wellbeing.

A bedroom should have calm yin energy for a good night’s sleep. Yin colours are soft, gentle colours such as calming blue or balancing green, or pale shades of other colours. This room had bright red and plum everywhere, colours which exude active, yang energy. During the day yang chi can help a person to gain more energy, but during the night it can keep them awake.

Predecessor energy is difficult to remove from a hotel room, but it may be that previous occupants of this room had also experienced uncomfortable feelings similar to mine, caused by the disturbing energy in the room, and their own distressed energy had been left behind in the room’s atmosphere.

Mirrors, and a television screen which acts like a mirror, are not good for bedrooms because they create an energy buzz around the room, and if they reflect the bed, they aim the buzz of energy at the occupant.  This is disruptive for peaceful sleep. I was able to cover these.

Corners and angles of furniture, or other objects such as cushions, need to be rounded, even slightly, because chi energy hits points and sharp edges, and bounces off them angrily, hitting anybody nearby and creating feelings of discomfort and distress. Tall points like that one large diagonally-placed cushion, aim an overwhelmingly menacing energy at anybody nearby.

I could have covered all the points on the bedhead with a cloth, and I could have arranged the cushions so that any points were softened and not standing upright. But I could not have done anything about the points in the twigs and the birds’ beaks which were all over the wallpaper, nor the main road aiming directly at my room. If I had not been in such a hurry to check in, I would have noticed, and asked to change room.

I certainly would not wish this room on anybody.
